The Final Swansong & High-Stakes Title Fights at Zwartkops Raceway

Race Day Preview: The Final Swansong & High-Stakes Title Fights at Zwartkops Raceway

The final round of the 111/ GT Sports & Saloons championship is here! This weekend is not just about crowning our final champions; it’s a celebration of a great season and a heartfelt farewell to a dedicated long-time supporter.

Overall Championship: Not Over ‘Til She Sings!

The tension remains high for the biggest prize. Wayne Robb has a firm grip on the 111 Overall Championship and now needs just 1 point to officially wrap up the crown. While Keegan Nathan holds a mathematical chance to catch him, as the old adage goes, it isn’t over until the fat lady sings! A massive congratulations to Wayne on a dominant season, but all eyes will be on him to secure that final point.

Class A Podium Scramble

The runner-up spot in Class A is sewn up, with Piet Potgieter taking second place. The focus is entirely on the bronze medal. Lindsay Clurr has a strong hold on 3rd place and needs 8 points to secure his position. Craig Priestly still maintains a mathematical chance of catching him, ensuring Lindsay cannot afford to relax.

The Winner-Take-All Showdown in Class B

The most direct and thrilling title fight of the day is in, Class B, where Wayne Lebotschy and Mike O’Sullivan are tied on 67 points each! This is a straight-up, winner-takes-all scenario: whoever walks away with more points on the day will take home the Class B honours. Both drivers will be pushing the limits, making this a must-watch battle.

Class C: The Final Points Push

The Class C title is also close to being decided. Nathan holds a 20-point gap over the newly crowned Volkswagen Rookies Cup Champion, Christopher Tait, and will need to score 5 points to clinch the title. Further down the field, Rob Clark is sitting comfortably in 3rd, though Sebastian Bouliart is only 15 points behind in 4th, pushing Clark to keep up the pace.

GT Class: The Old Guard Returns to a Growing Field

While Wouter Roos has already secured the GT Title at Red Star Raceway, the remainder of the podium is hotly contested.

2nd Place: Jonathan Visser needs only 2 points to secure the runner-up spot.

3rd Place Battle: The fight for the final podium step is wide open, with Jared Rossouw and returning driver George Economides tied on points! The return of the “Old Guard” (George Economidis and Mark Du Toit) after missing the last three rounds is a welcome sight. They return to a GT field that has experienced massive growth, making for an interesting race at the front end as experience battles new talent.

Special Guest Contenders

The grid is bolstered by several high-profile special entries, all expected to challenge the established front-runners:

Quentin Duvenhage: Joins the field in his VW 2-door Turbo. Quentin is a regular contender in Silvercup 2.0 Class A, and this being only his second race in this new build, we hope to see the 2D Trucks man potentially join us full-time in 2026.

Dylan Pragji: A regular contender in Supa Cup, Dylan joins the GT Class in his custom Fast Developments-built Polo 6 and should instantly be a contender at the front.

Marius Truter: The Silvercup Pro class winner also joins the GT Class for this race, hoping to give the established front-end contenders some serious competition.

Sponsor Spotlight: DigitFMS

We are thrilled to announce that next year’s sponsor, Digit FMS, is immediately backing the event by sponsoring the upcoming weekend’s Pole Position Awards! They are putting up a cash prize as well as a hamper for the pole sitter in each class. Drivers will be pushing hard in qualifying, not just for track position, but for a piece of that prize pool!

A Fond Farewell: ACD Welkom

This race day marks the final swansong for our long-time sponsor and dedicated supporter, ACD Welkom. We want to extend our deepest gratitude for their long-term support and enthusiasm for our club over the years. We have no doubt the last race is going to be epic, and we will send them out with a bang!
