Almost 30 Car Care Clinic GT and 111 Sports & Saloons competitors will make their way to Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 13 March for the opening round of their respective championships.
2020 Champion Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic VW) should be at the front of the GT Sports & Saloons category with competition expected to come from his teammate Louis Scholtz in the Car Care Clinic VW Golf. Adrian Dalton will give his newly acquired Xtra Clothing & Shoes Audi TT its first competitive outing while Mark du Toit is always a force to be reckoned with in his Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4. Lenard Archer should also be on the grid in his ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz.
Phillip Meyer (PPLE Group Porsche 924 GTR), Mark Harvey (Adapt Signage and Branding Porsche 924) and Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Golf) are likely to be in the Class A fight at the front of the 111 Sports and Saloons category with Lucas Bezuidenhout (Pretoria Noord Toyota Lexus IS 200) also capable of running at the front of the class.
At the time of writing, it looks like Wayne Lebotschy (Shield VW Golf) will have things his own way in Class B. Reno van Heerden (VW Polo) just missed out on the overall championship last year and will be back at the sharp end of Class D along with the Golfs of Marius Lotz (Team Gregory Racing) and Pieter Kirkhoff (Investicore Asset Management/Lombard Tyres). Graham Obery (Haval Edenvale Porsche 924) and Yorick Smith (Phoenix Auto Spares Mazda MX5) will also be out to gain as many Class D points as possible.
In Class E, regulars Mark Kingsmill and Mark Gregory in their Creative Patterns/Team Gregory Racing VW Golfs will be joined by Pieter Vermeulen (Universal Healthcare VW Polo). Class X, for newcomers to the series, will see Luke Dalton (Xtra Clothing & Shoes VW Golf), Bob Neill (Delmon Mining Honda Civic Type R), Duane Brown (Brown’s Auto Ford Fiesta), Ebrahim Peck (Geardown Gearbox and Diff VW Polo), Nolan Fleetwood (Electro Whizz VW Golf) and Jonathan Matos (Matos Sport BMW E46) fighting for the win.
After three practice sessions on Friday, things will get more serious at 09h10 on Saturday morning when the drivers will head out for their qualifying session. At 12h00 the lights will go out to signal the start of the first race of the day, an 8-lap sprint. The final event of the day’s program will see the GT and 111 contingents joined by their SuperHatch counterparts for a 45-minute mini endurance race which is scheduled to get underway at 15h25.
Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, no spectators will be permitted at Zwartkops, however, the day’s races will be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
