Red Star Raceway, just outside Delmas in Mpumalanga, will host the penultimate rounds of the Car Care Clinic GT and 111 Sports & Saloons championships on 7 & 8 October 2022.

In the GT category, Johan van der Vyver (Devlaw Subaru WRX STI) and Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom Hyundai Getz) took advantage of the absence of Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic VW Golf) at the Phakisa 200 to move past him in the championship standings. Scholtz returns at Red Star, but van der Vyver and Archer will be looking to hold on to the advantage they gained in the Free State. Mark du Toit (Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4) and George Economides (Wealth Avenue VW Golf) should also be in action, as will Phillip Meyer (Pple Group Porsche 924 GTR), who has moved up to the GT category from Class A of 111s.

In the 111 Sports & Saloons category, the gap at the top of the overall championship table has narrowed to just five points; Class A man Adrian Dalton (Xtra Clothing & Shoes VW Golf) leading the way from Class B leader Roland Hopkins (Bush n Buck VW Polo). Dalton has a comfortable lead in the Class A standings but will face intense challenges from Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic VW Golf), Johan van Heerden (JVH Performance VW Golf), Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Golf), Andre de Lange (Roofsure VW Golf) and Kobus Brits (Pragma VW Polo)
In Class B, Hopkins will likely have to contend with Wayne Lebotschy (Shield VW Golf) in his quest to claim the 2022 class B crown. Class C looks like it will be a straight fight between Maritz le Roux (111 Plumbers BMW E30) and Dhiren Ganasen (Honda Civic), while Yorick Smith (Mazda MX5) and Didi Matjila (Genelec VW Polo) will fight for Class D honours. Michael Grobler (Pest Control VW Polo) and Rob Clark (Container Force Honda Ballade) are the Class E contenders.
As is usually the case, the drivers will use Friday’s practice sessions to prepare for race day on Saturday, which kicks off with a qualifying session at 08h00. Two 8-lap sprint races are scheduled for 10h40 and 13h40.
