2020 Car Care Clinic 111 Sports & Saloons season opens at Red Star

Over 20 drivers have indicated that they will be at the opening round of the 2020 Car Care Clinic 111 and GT Sports & Saloons championships which will take place at Red Star Raceway on Saturday, 22 February. The new GT Sports and Saloons category that has been created to cater for those cars that are quicker than the maximum 1’11” lap time around Zwartkops allowed for the 111s will run in conjunction with the 111 Sports & Saloons.

The leading contenders in the new category should be Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic VW Golf), Johan van der Vyver (Devlaw Subaru WRX STi) and Andre de Lange (Roofsure Ford Focus) although Lenard Archer in his newly built ACD Hyundai i20 could spring a surprise.

Class A in the 111 Sports & Saloons always provides a close fight at the front and this weekend should be no different. Those that are likely to be near the front include Lucas Bezuidenhout (Pretoria Noord Toyota Lexus), Louis Cloete (AMS Tuning VW Beetle), Adrian Dalton (Xtra Clothing and Shoes VW Golf), Ryan Quan-Chai (Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4), Floris Stopforth (VW Golf) and Waldo Swiegers (Waldo Swiegers Photography Honda Ballade).

Wayne Lebotschy (Shield VW Golf) and Mark Harvey (Adapt Design & Sign Porsche 924) should fight it out at the front of Class B while Class D looks like a contest between Chris Smit (Captive Toptrans Porsche 924) and Reno van Heerden (VW Polo).

The battle of the Mk 1 VW Golfs will take place in Class E with Mark Gregory (Creative Patterns), Mark Kingsmill (Team Gregory Racing) and Pieter Kirkhoff (Lombard Tyres/Roofsure) fighting for supremacy.

Class X, for newcomers to the series, will feature Roland Hopkins (Rietchard Scrap Metal VW Golf), Yorick Smith (Mazda MX5), Joshua Weyers (Rohlig Grindrod Logistics Opel Corsa) Maritz le Roux (111 Plumbers VW Polo) and Nolan Fleetwood (Electro Whiiz/Litts VW Passat).

Friday will see the drivers tackling three practice session before to get their cars set up for the tricky Red Star Raceway. Qualifying gets underway at 07h40 on Saturday morning with the opening 8-lap race just before 10h00. The second race should get underway at 13h44.
