Car Care Clinic GT and 111 championships to be decided at Zwartkops

The Car Care Clinic GT and 111 Sports & Saloons championship drivers will make their way to Zwartkops Raceway for their final outing of 2022 on 11 & 12 November 2022.

Johan van der Vyver should claim the Car Care Clinic GT Sports & Saloons title at Zwartkops

Johan van der Vyver’s consistent points-scoring finishes throughout the season have given him an almost unassailable lead in the GT category. It will be a significant upset if Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom Honda Civic) snatches the title from the Devlaw Subaru WRX STI driver. Mechanical problems last time out at Red Star Raceway ended any chance Louis Scholtz (Car Care Clinic VW Golf) had of claiming the 2022 title, but he could take second place if Archer’s fast but fragile Honda lets him down. Phillip Meyer (Pple Group Porsche 924 GTR), who only moved up to the GT category at the last event, showed he would be a force to be reckoned with when he took overall victory at Red Star and will be out to repeat that feat at the final event. Others who will be chasing maximum points include Mark du Toit (Trans Africa Racing BMW Z4), Bob Neill, who makes a welcome return in the Delmon Mining Ford Focus, Gerhard Henning (VW Golf), Andre de Lange (Roofsure VW Golf), and Kobus Brits (Pragma VW Polo).

Roland Hopkins

Adrian Dalton (Xtra Clothing & Shoes VW Golf), with eight wins in 12 starts, leads the way in the overall and Class A championship standings. In the overall title race, his closest challenger is Class B leader Roland Hopkins (Bush n Buck VW Polo), with Maritz le Roux (111 Plumbers BMW E30), who has already wrapped up the Class C title not far behind in third.

While Dalton has wrapped up Class A, Wouter Roos (Car Care Clinic VW Golf), Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Golf), and Johan van Heerden (JVH Performance VW Golf) will battle it out for the minor placings with Mark Harvey (Adapt Signage & Branding Porsche 924) making a welcome return to the track. Although he cannot catch Hopkins in the Class B championship standings, Wayne Lebotschy (Shield VW Golf) will be doing his best to catch him on the track as the pair resume the battle that saw them share the class wins last time out with Chris Smit (Toptrans Porsche 944) returning to the fray as well.

Le Roux, who has often had a lonely run in Class C this year, will be joined In Class B by Joshua Weyers (Rohlig-Grindrod Opel Corsa), who is scheduled to have his first competitive outing of the season. Didi Matjila (Genelec VW Polo) has a comfortable advantage at the top of the Class D log. Still, Yorick Smith (Prei Instrumentation Mazda MX5), Michael Grobler (Pest Control VW Polo), and Marius Malherbe (M Kruger Auditing Inc Porsche 924) will make him work for the couple of points he needs. Rob Clark (Containerforce Self Storage Honda Ballade) is the only Class E contender at the time of writing.

The drivers will have a couple of practice sessions on Friday before tackling the qualifying session late on Friday afternoon. The final two 8-lap races of the season are scheduled for 11h25 and 16h20 on Saturday.
